⭐

Why it Matters

Learning how to read dates is essential for understanding schedules, appointments, and historical events in Japan.
🎯

How to Practice

Use this quiz to practice converting dates into their Japanese readings. Many days of the month have irregular readings, so focus on those!
💡

Study Tips

  • • Focus on the first 10 days of the month - they are almost all irregular (tsuitachi, futsuka, mikka, etc.).
  • • Remember that 4, 7, and 9 often have special readings in dates (shigatsu for April, shichigatsu for July, kugatsu for September).
  • • The 20th of the month is always "hatsuka", not "nijunichi".
  • • Say the full date out loud as you type to reinforce your memory.
  • • Japanese eras (Gengō) are commonly used in official documents. For the first year of an era, "gannen" is used instead of "ichinen".
